Things Fall Apart?

Much in the news to generate some hope that America is returning to her senses:
The filibuster deal (full text here)

James Dobson foaming at the mouth, making himself ever more offensive to the American mainstream.

Voinovich on Bolton

Stem Cell revolt

And even Glenn Reynolds and John Henke think the Right is overplaying its hand.
Ain't democracy grand?

You know, reading the news story about James Dobson's dismay over the Senate compromise on judicial appointments caused me to think about Zell Miller's appearance on the Daily Show a couple of months ago. The night after Miller's "frothy" speech at the Republican convention Jon Stewart really outdid himself (as I recall, he used the term "flying spittle" a number of times). Boy, was I surprised to subsequently see Miller as Stewart's guest. It was very apparent that Miller and Stewart were quite uncomfortable being across the desk from each other.

Perhaps Jon ought to try one more time to reach out to the other side, and invite Dr. Dobson to explain why he thinks his conservative brethren in the Senate sold him out. I'd stay up to watch that one.
