Israel

Does anyone besides me think Israel is our single biggest foreign policy problem? Why do we keep supporting these nut cases?

Just read an article stating that Israel is seriously considering building a $250 million moat around Gaza, even though it will destabilize the land underneath many Palestinian homes. One official thought it would be "nice" for the Palestinians (those whose homes survived anyway) to look at, and maybe they could even fish in the moat. I'm serious. This was in Newsweek. I am not making this up. Do we really want to help foot the bill for a $250 moat, regardless of the security it might bring Israel???

I don't know what to say about this. It seems so futile. As if a moat is going to do any good.

The Israelis are into separation now. Walls, fences, moats. Who knows what next. At one level I guess I sympathize with them a bit. They just want to be left alone. But they are their own worst enemy becuase at bottom they hold the arab world in contempt. It is hard not to, I agree. But everything they try just makes matters worse. It's like the Tar Baby. Sooner or later they need to stop being Brer Bear and learn to be Brer Rabbit. (Everything I really need to know I learned in kindergarten).

Oh. As to your question "do we really want to support this moat?" Well, let's see.... No? Duh!
